FreeCalculator is an independent UK resource offering free, easy-to-use financial calculators that don’t just give you a number — they explain it. Our goal is simple: help people in the UK understand their money with tools that are accurate, transparent and genuinely useful.
Our mission
Personal finance is full of jargon and hidden assumptions. We build calculators that show their working: every result comes with a plain-English explanation, a worked example, the underlying formula and the current rates we used. You should never have to take a number on trust.
How we calculate
Accuracy is the foundation of everything here. For each calculator we:
- build the calculation logic from first principles and document the method on the page;
- source every tax band, threshold and rate from official UK sources — primarily GOV.UK and HMRC, plus the Bank of England for interest-rate context;
- store all rates in a single, version-controlled configuration with the date each figure was verified and a link to its source; and
- test the calculation engine against published examples to confirm the maths is correct.
Where a figure depends on assumptions — such as treating pension contributions as salary sacrifice, or projecting investment growth at a steady rate — we state those assumptions clearly so you can judge whether they fit your situation.
Keeping rates up to date
UK tax rules and rates change, typically each tax year. Because our rates live in one place, we can update them quickly when official figures change. Every calculator page shows a “last updated” date and links to the authoritative source, so you can always check the figures for yourself.
Our editorial standards
- Accuracy first. If a trade-off ever arises between looking good and being correct, correct wins.
- Cite the source. Money content should be checkable; we link to the official source behind every key figure.
- Plain English. We explain, we don’t lecture, and we avoid unnecessary jargon.
- No personalised advice. We provide information and estimates, not financial advice — see the disclaimer below.
How we’re funded
Our calculators are free to use. To keep them that way, the Site is supported by advertising and, on some pages, clearly-labelled affiliate links — if you take out a product through one we may earn a commission at no cost to you. This never influences our calculations or the figures we show, and any reference to a financial product is a signpost only, not a recommendation. You can read more in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Important disclaimer
FreeCalculator provides general information and estimates for the UK only. It is not financial, tax, investment or legal advice. Tax rules and individual circumstances vary, so always confirm figures with official sources or a qualified, regulated adviser before making decisions.
